More wild plums!

We have been out for a walk to gather our final lots of wild plums:
They are not all here in the above picture as we processed a few. All in all though, for 30 minutes picking, we ended up with 9 3/4 lbs - wow!

We shall not go again even though there are still stones rather than pounds left as we can only store so much. Quite a few of these will go into jam and chutney, the rest stored for puddings:)

As we had gathered more red than yellow and some of the red ones were small, we changed our plum stoner over to the cherry stoning version of it:
As you can see, the stones just drop out underneath:

    We don't have wild plums growing around here, or if we have, we've never spotted them!
    I love that stoning gadget of yours, it looks like something from Star Trek!

      It is rather nice isn't it. You can't miss wild plums as they are so bright. Wild damsons are more difficult to spot due to their dark colour.

      We have eaten loads but as our two small apple trees are ready, have changed onto eating those!

    There's one wild plum tree on the verge just down the lane from us, but it's not fruited at all for the past three years. I've given up hope that it will ever do so again!
    The brambles however are loaded with berries this year, now it's just a matter of waiting for them all to be ready and I'll be out there with my grandad's old walking stick and a large basket!

      Can't beat a nice bramble, we are eating our homegrown ones every morning on our porridge.

    I saw the wild plums where ripe when I walked the dog this morning, so am going back once it stops raining. I don't have a posh stoner though, can you send it my way please!!! Xxx

      You can buy hand held plum stoners On A-a-on. Mind you they are not too bad to remove by hand either before or after cooking.

    I'll have to keeps eye out for a stoner. We have a couple of cherry trees on our walk near the beach that have tonnes of fruit on them each year. The council cut one back because people were slipping over in the fruit that dropped off. Shame. But it's growing again now.
